The EETAC Master's degrees in Applied Telecom. and Engineering Management (MASTEAM) and Advanced Telecommunications Technologies (MATT) organize a weekly series of activities (talks, technical visits, discussion pannels) that complement the academic activities with real-world experiences from companies, research centres and institutions in the main topics of the master: Internet of Things, Smart Cities, 5G mobile communications, Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Radio (SDR), cloud computing, augmented reality and audiovisual services, among others.

Speaker: Dr Elisa Rojas

Title: "Software-Defined Networking: Current trends and challenges"

Abstract: A decade has past since the Software-Defined Networking (SDN) term was coined and this technological paradigm is now well-know by most computer networks engineers. In this talk, we will provide a quick overview about the story of SDN: what is the definition of SDN, how the original objectives of SDN changed, what happened with surrounding standardization initiatives and platforms, and what is the current impact of SDN. Apart from checking the current applications of SDN, we will also focus on current challenges to be tackled in the upcoming years, particularly relevant if we consider the outcomes expected for the envisioned 6G networks.

Bio: Elisa Rojas (@cuasingeniera in Twitter) received her PhD in Information and Communication Technologies engineering from the University of Alcala, Spain, in 2013. As a postdoc, she worked in IMDEA Networks and, later on, as CTO of Telcaria Ideas S.L., an SME dedicated to both research and development of virtualized network services. She has participated in diverse projects funded by the EC, such as FP7-NetIDE or H2020-SUPERFLUIDITY, and collaborated in industry projects with partners like Telefónica. She currently works as an Assistant Professor in the University of Alcala where her current research interests encompass SDN, NFV, high performance and scalable Ethernet, IoT and data center networks. She has 16 high-impact publications, 5 patents, and diverse publications in conference proceedings. She has worked in three different areas in relation with SDN: as a researcher in several EU projects, as a designer and developer in an SDN project for a network operator, and as a professor.
