The EETAC Master's degrees in Applied Telecom. and Engineering Management (MASTEAM) and Advanced Telecommunications Technologies (MATT) organize a weekly series of activities (talks, technical visits, discussion pannels) that complement the academic activities with real-world experiences from companies, research centres and institutions in the main topics of the master: Internet of Things, Smart Cities, 5G mobile communications, Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Radio (SDR), cloud computing, augmented reality and audiovisual services, among others.

This week's activity will be a talk from Piotr Rajchowski.

Speaker: Piotr Rajchowski

Title: "Current Research Challenges in Mobile Wireless Communication Systems"

Abstract: Modern Wireless Communication Systems, like the 4G-LTE/5G, are designed to provide us many services, also for special applications not directly identified with typical users. The different applications imply the need of analyzing not only the final quality of service parameter but also the aspects of signal processing in the physical layer.

The goal of the meeting is to present the aspects of operation of the 4G/5G networks in harsh propagation conditions and moreover give a look on aspects of synchronization of the user terminal with the eNodeB/gNodeB.

Bio: Piotr Rajchowski (Member, IEEE) was born in Poland, in 1989. He received the E.Eng., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in radio communication from the Gdańsk University of Technology (Gdańsk Tech), Poland, in 2012, 2013, and 2017, respectively. Since 2013, he has been working at the Department of Radiocommunication Systems and Networks, Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics, Gdańsk University of Technology, as a IT Specialist, Research Assistant and since 2019 as Assistant Professor. Since 2020, he is the Deputy Head of the Department and Manager of the Environmental Laboratory of Wireless Communication Systems for Special Applications. His research and science activity include being the Contractor of seven research and development projects related to homeland security, radiolocalization, and modern wireless networks. From 2019 to 2020, he was the Early Career Investigator Representative of the COST-IRACON CA-15104 Action, now he participates the CA20120 Action. His main research interests include radiolocalization in modern sensor and 4G/5G cellular networks, mostly the physical layer. Moreover, he is interested in the aspects of the synchronization in the NB-IoT and 5G networks, especially in the harsh propagation conditions. He received the Young Scientists Award of URSI in 2020 and some domestic awards like the Annual Award of the President of the City of Gdańsk and the Gdańsk Scientific Society for Young Scientists.
