The Master's degree in Applied Telecommunications and Engineering Management (MASTEAM) organizes a weekly series of activities (talks, technical visits, discussion pannels) that complement the academic activities with real-world experiences from companies, research centres and institutions in the main topics of the master: Internet of Things. Smart Cities, 5G mobile communications, Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Radio (SDR), cloud computing, augmented reality and audiovisual services, among others.

Title: Smart Mobility with no associated sensors? Mobile devices at the core of mobility

Abstract: Current mobility solutions have the ability to track users and ingest data from diverse sources but none of them close circle by offering smart routes to their users. We will be discussing the benefits of having an application that can calculate the routes it is recommending in real-time on the device itself. Which implications does it have for future mobility? Should users be aware of the criteria that is modifying their routes?

Bio: Josep Lluís Larriba-Pey (Larri) is a renowned reasearcher in the field of Data Management with around 200 publications. He founded DAMA-UPC, a research group within BarcelonaTech and has been directing it over the past 11 years. The  group deals with the management of big data and has deep relationship  with the industry, both at a local and at an international level, with strong players such as IBM or Oracle. During the last 5 years he has been the CEO at Sparsity Technologies, a spin-out of BarcelonaTech, recognised by the European Commission as the SME with most innovative potential in the European Community in 2015.
