The Master's degree in Applied Telecommunications and Engineering Management (MASTEAM) organizes a weekly series of activities (talks, technical visits, discussion pannels) that complement the academic activities with real-world experiences from companies, research centres and institutions in the main topics of the master: Internet of Things. Smart Cities, 5G mobile communications, Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Radio (SDR), cloud computing, augmented reality and audiovisual services, among others.

This week's activity will be a talk from Dr Mario Montagud (i2Cat Foundation)

May 16th, 17:30h (duration 1h), classroom C4-021B, EETAC, Campus Castelldefels UPC. How to arrive.

Title: i2CAT: Cutting Edge Research on Next-Generation Internet and Media Technology (Dr Mario Montagud, i2Cat Foundation)

Abstract: i2CAT Foundation is a non-profit research and innovation centre which promotes mission-oriented R+D+i activities on advanced Internet architectures, applications and services. This talk will initially provide an overview of the different research areas in which I2CAT is currently involved in. Then, the talk will focus on the particular research interests of, and contributions by, its Media Internet Area (MIA). As proof of relevance, special attention will be given to active EU H2020 research projects coordinated by MIA that are contributing to achieving a seamless integration and convergence between the TV and VR fields, thus enabling a new wave of interactive, immersive, personalized and accessible services. Demos and demo videos will be shown to give a clearer idea of these research contributions. Finally, the talk will review some success stories from collaborations between UPC and i2CAT and further possibilities will be discussed.
