Title: Accurate and Affordable GNSS

Rokubun S.L. (from the Japanese word for Sextant, or 'Rokubungi') is an R&D company established in 2015 after being awarded by the European Space Agency (ESA) Business Incubator Programme. The company is led by two seasoned Telecommunication engineers with more than 25 years of aggregated experience in the fields of Navigation and Earth Observation based on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). The company focuses on research and development of accurate and affordable navigation solutions targeted to the mobile market. Its vision is to become a reference in precise navigation solutions for the real life.


Bio: Xavier Banqué-Casanovas, MSc, Rokubun co-founder and CEO, is a Space R&D Engineer and Project Manager with over 10 years of experience. He received his BSc (5 years) in Telecommunication engineering (2006) by the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Spain). Later he obtained the Master of Research in Information and Communications Technology (MERIT) by the same university in 2009, with a Master Thesis on polarimetric SAR and lately got some education in management obtaining a Master’s Degree in Project Management in the Business Engineering School of University of La Salle (Spain). Concerning his professional career, he started working as a researcher in Remote Sensing Lab of Polytechnic University of Catalonia in 2006, for afterward working as a contractor engineer in ESA-ESTEC (Noordwijk, The Netherlands) in 2007-2008. He worked from 2008 and 2012 in Starlab Barcelona S.L. (Spain) as researcher and project manager in several space related topics such as GNSS-Reflectometry, Digital Hardware design and development for Earth Observation payloads and Synthetic Aperture Radar. In 2012 he moved to work as Satellite Positioning Engineer at Indra S.A, in the optimization of the position estimation algorithms in the COSPAS-SARSAT Search and Rescue project. By 2013, he started working in Altamira-Information S.L. as R&D Engineer and Project Manager in radar research projects with the principal European institutions and programs (ESA, CNES, FP7) both in technical management and project proposal writing. In 2015 he co-founded Rokubun, where he is working full time as CEO and Research Engineer. In the scope of Rokubun he has managed and conceived several R&D projects (H2020 SME Instrument, Spanish CDTI Neotec, ESA tenders…) as well as participated in others as co-applicant (H2020). Additionally, he works also as Copernicus expert for EU, as mentor in the Copernicus Accelerator.
