MASTEAM-MATT talk - Dr David Rincón (UPC) - Synchronization in packet-switched networks - It's about time!

This week's activity will be a talk session from Dr. David Rincón (UPC), 24 March 2021, 18:00h, on line.

The EETAC Master's degrees in Applied Telecom. and Engineering Management (MASTEAM) and Advanced Telecommunications Technologies (MATT) organize a weekly series of activities (talks, technical visits, discussion pannels) that complement the academic activities with real-world experiences from companies, research centres and institutions in the main topics of the master: Internet of Things, Smart Cities, 5G mobile communications, Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Radio (SDR), cloud computing, augmented reality and audiovisual services, among others.

Title: "Synchronization in packet-switched networks - It's about time!"

Abstract: Synchronization has been an important element in legacy networks (PDH, SDH) and it is gaining more and more importance in fields such as cellular networks (5G), industrial networks (Time-Sensitive Networking - TSN), avionics and automobiles. The talk will introduce the topic, will describe two modern synchronization techniques: NTP and PTP (IEEE 1588), and its applications to 5G and TSN.

Bio: David Rincón received a M.Sc. in Telecommunications Engineering and a Ph.D. in Computer Networks from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC). In 1998 he joined the Department of Network Engineering at UPC, where he is currently an Associate Professor. He has been a visiting researcher at the Teletrafc Research Centre (University of Adelaide, Australia, 2007) and at the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM) at UCLA (2008). His interests include trafc modeling, network softwarization, optical access networks, synchronization, and energy consumption in computer networks.
