The EETAC Master's degrees in Applied Telecom. and Engineering Management (MASTEAM) and Advanced Telecommunications Technologies (MATT) organize a weekly series of activities (talks, technical visits, discussion pannels) that complement the academic activities with real-world experiences from companies, research centres and institutions in the main topics of the master: Internet of Things, Smart Cities, 5G mobile communications, Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Radio (SDR), cloud computing, augmented reality and audiovisual services, among others.

Title: "Welcome to the Exponential Era: a 5G Perspective"
Abstract: We are in the exponential era. Digital technologies are changing our daily lives, and we are only at the very beginning of a new World. Nothing will ever be again the same. Among other technologies, it is foreseen that 5G technology will disrupt anything we have known until today. 5G will be a key facilitator for the Internet of Things (IoT), the Tactile Internet, the Internet of Skills and Senses, the Internet of Vehicles, the Connected Intelligences and the Metaworld. We will discuss together about this and other topics during an intense 50-minute interactive session.
Bio: Jesus Alonso-Zarate, PhD, MBA, (www.jesusalonsozarate.com) is now the Deputy Director of European Commission Research and Innovation Policy and Strategy at i2CAT Foundation (www.i2cat.net). i2CAT is a non-profit research and innovation center located in Barcelona and focused on disruptive digital technologies such as 5G/6G, the IoT, Cybersecurity, Satellite Communications, Artificial Intelligence, and Immersive Virtual Technologies. Before, he had been for 16 years with the Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC), where he was a senior researcher working on wireless communications, 5G and the IoT, and he was the head of a research department and manager of the Communication Technologies Division. Along his career, he has published more than 160 technical papers, has participated in more than 30 R&D projects, being the Principal Investigator in some of them, and he has received various awards. In 2019, he received the Young Researcher Award by the Spanish Royal Academy of Engineering for his contributions to the field during his career below the age of 40.
