Course on Hydrogen Safety in Mobile Applications (HSMA)

21/07/2026

Course about safety of hydrogen storage tanks for automobile and aerospace industries within the Unite! Alliance

Faculty of EETAC-UPC, in cooperation with faculty from TU Graz and Politecnico di Torino have organized a course entitled "Hydrogen Safety in Mobile Applications (HSMA)" within the Unite! Alliance. The course, about safety of hydrogen storage tanks for automobile and aerospace industries, is in principle designed for Master's students, but applications from Bachelor's students might be considered as well.

This course addresses the growing significance of hydrogen as a clean energy carrier in mobile applications and the associated safety challenges. Students will explore hydrogen production technologies, storage systems, and safety protocols, with a particular emphasis on risk evaluation and mitigation. Through a blend of theoretical instruction, real-life case studies, group projects, and international collaboration, participants will gain competencies in evaluating, designing, and managing hydrogen-powered vehicle systems in compliance with safety standards and environmental requirements.

The HSMA course fosters multicultural team collaboration and critical thinking by engaging master's students from various engineering backgrounds in a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) environment, supported by in-person activities.
