ISAC and RIS integration into 5G-NR, complianting ORAN

20/09/2024

Next MASTEAM-MATT-CoDaS talk from Seyed Mahdi Darroudi. Wednesday 2th October, 18:00h. Classroom C4-021B EETAC, and online by Meet. Campus Castelldefels, UPC

The EETAC Master's degrees in Applied Telecom. and Engineering Management (MASTEAM),  Advanced Telecommunications Technologies (MATT), and Erasmus Mundus master's degree in Communications, Engineering and Data Science (CoDaS) organize a weekly series of activities (talks, technical visits, discussion pannels) that complement the academic activities with real-world experiences from companies, research centres and institutions in the main topics of the master: Machine Learning, Data Science, Internet of Things, Smart Cities, 5G mobile communications, Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Radio (SDR), cloud computing, augmented reality and audiovisual services, among others.”

This week's activity will be a talk session from Seyed Mahdi Darroudi

Title: "ISAC and RIS integration into 5G-NR, complianting ORAN""

Abstract:

Once a new technology matures enough, new ideas pop up while they had been unimaginable in a few years before.

Radar, Lidar and Reconfigurable Intelligent surfaces (RIS) are not new technologies, but they found their new way and adventure by getting integrated into 5G New Radio (NR) technology resulting in unlocking the doors to many new useful use cases.

Open6G aims to contribute in such integration by offering top notch use cases while Neutroon contributes by providing the platform.

These technologies are being used and developed in the 6GSMART project , focused in the development of cyberphysical systems applied to Industry 4.0, based in private 5G/6G networks, Time-Sensitive Networking, Artificial Intelligence and Cloud Continuum environments.

Bio

Seyed Mahdi Darroudi received his Bachelor and Master degrees in Computer Network in 2007 and 2011, respectively. He is currently a PhD holder in Computer Network from UPC.

He has +15 years of experience and research on different wireless network technologies like WiFi, LPWAN, LoRa, satellite communication and cellular networks. He also has +5 years of teaching experience, giving courses on computer networks topics.

Apart from publication, he is honored to be part of RFC 9159 standard. He has been peer reviewer for +10 well known highly rated journals and conferences. He has also experience on Fuzzy Logic as an AI method for Decision Support Systems (DSS).

He has been working in many national and European projects like: Zero-Swarm, Target-X, 6GSmart, Open6G, 6G-Chronos, OpenCAMARA, WINTERTIME, Aerial Inspection of electrical and oil & gas grids and cut costs with unmanned aircraft, ALLINONE.

He was recently founded by Torres Quevedo program to research on 5G/6G elements (RAN and Core) optimization employing AI/ML methods.

He is currently R&D manager in Neutroon which investigates 5G/beyonds, toward 6G networks. His current scope of work also includes edge processing and integrating 5G networks into industrial use cases to satisfy Industry 4.0 requirements.
