MASTEAM Talk: IETF 6TiSCH: Enabling distributed process monitoring and control applications in the industry

16/02/2017

1st March, Talk: IETF 6TiSCH: Enabling distributed process monitoring and control applications in the industry by Dr Pere Tuset.

Talk: IETF 6TiSCH: Enabling distributed process monitoring and control applications in the industry.

Abstract: The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) revolution relies on ubiquitous low-cost sensor- and actuator-enabled devices with constrained computational capabilities that operate autonomously and are connected to the Internet through low-power wireless communication technologies and standards. The deployment of such devices within the factory floor will bring together OT (Operation Technologies) and IT (Information Technologies) and enable distributed industrial process monitoring and control applications. Standards for low-power wireless communications technologies specifically targeted at the IIoT are reaching technical maturity and being adopted by industries around the world. One particular set of standards is being developed by the IETF 6TiSCH standardization Working Group, which encompasses IEEE802.15.4 TSCH, IETF 6LoWPAN, RPL and CoAP, and enable to provide deterministic and robust connectivity to end-devices. The talk will provide an introduction to the 6TiSCH stack and give application examples to understand its potential in the industry.
