TFG/TFM (assignment, registration, thesis deposit and evaluation)

 (Catalan version) (Spanish version)

The final thesis management application is part of the SIA. The application manages all the stages of bachelor’s and master’s theses, from the proposal to the assessment and deposit in the library.

From the moment that the professor assigns a project to a student using this application, an automatic system of sending e-mails is initiated that keeps both the student and the supervisor of the thesis informed at all times.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR STUDENTS: Check the e-mail address you have given in the "E-mail address" section of the e-Secretaria  as you will receive all e-mails related to the management of the final thesis at this address.

1. Registration

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree students: Students can register for the final thesis if they have up to 60 credits left to complete the bachelor’s degree (including the credits for the final thesis).
  • In the case of the double bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Systems Engineering and Telecommunications Systems Engineering or Network Engineering, students can ask to register for the final thesis when they have a maximum of 84 credits pending to complete their degree.
  • In the case of the double bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Systems Engineering and Network Engineering, students can ask to register for the final thesis when they have a maximum of 78 credits pending to complete their degree.

The final thesis has to be done individually.

Students can request the assignment of a final thesis from two months up to two days before the date of the established enrolment period. In the case of a final thesis carried out in an external entity, students can request the assignment from one semester before the date of the enrolment period if the student has a valid enrolment.  If the student does not enrol in the ordinary enrolment period after the assignment, the assignment of the final thesis is not valid and the thesis topic can be assigned to another student. Approval of the final thesis supervisor is required if a student wants to register for the topic again.

  • Assignments of final theses formalised from 15 December should be registered online during the ordinary enrolment period in February. Otherwise the registration expires on 16 March. Approval of the tutor is required if a student wants to register for the same topic again.
  • Assignments of the final thesis formalised from 15 May should be registered online during the ordinary enrolment period in July/September. Otherwise the registration expires on 16 October. Approval of the tutor is required if a student wants to register for the same topic again.

2. Enrolment

The maximum period between registration and enrolment of the final thesis is one semester.

Enrolment for the final thesis is done online in the ordinary enrolment periods (July/September or February), so the proposed registration must be validated at least two days before the scheduled date of enrolment. If the final thesis is associated with a work placement, enrolment may be carried out via the Open Office in a different period, as long as the student wants to formalise the enrolment at the same time as the education cooperation agreement is signed.

Final thesis enrolment will be valid according to the calendar. established by the EETAC. If the final thesis is not passed in this period, the student must enrol again.

If the thesis defence is in the semester after the one enrolled for, the student must enrol in the following semester for tutorials and administrative services, in accordance with the general UPC regulations. Students do not have to complete any procedures for this new enrolment, as the enrolment fees corresponding to the second period are generated automatically when the thesis is deposited in this period. Once generated, the student will receive notification by e-mail and will be able to see the enrolment in the e-Secretaria. Students do not need to pay for the thesis credits in this new enrolment, only the administrative fees (around 90 to 95 euros, covering the management of the academic record, learning support and student insurance, if applicable).

If the student does not deposit the thesis before the end of the second period, the mark awarded will be "ABSENT (NO PRESENTAT)", and it will be necessary to ask to begin the registration and enrolment processes again, with the corresponding economic penalty for repeating a subject.

3. Deposit

Once enrolled, students must deliver their final thesis before the deadline established in the calendar.

Students will deposit the text and enter additional deposit data via the SIA (TFG-Estudiants).

The examination committee shall assess the documents and could suggest corrections if necessary. In this case, the student must deposit the definitive thesis again with the corrections made.

4. Formation of the examination committee

Once thesis enrolment has been completed (it is not essential to have made the deposit), the thesis supervisor can appoint the members of the examination committee.

Once the thesis has been deposited, the supervisor must approve the thesis submitted and establish the date/time/place of the defence.

If the student wants to set a specific date for the defence, this must previously be agreed with the thesis supervisor so that it can be assigned. The formation of the examination committee and the date/time/place of the defence will be communicated to the student through automatic e-mails sent by the SIA.

5. Assessment

The examination committee is responsible for filling in the report with the mark for the final thesis and, if appropriate, for proposing a Distinction. See the aspects considered in final thesis assessment here.

Once the secretary of the examination committee has recorded/validated the final mark in the SIA application, students who have already passed the rest of the credits and attained the foreign language competency will have to wait to process their degree certificate in the Open Office until the first screen of the e-Secretaria shows the following information:

Status of the record: Closed
Status of the student: Graduate
