Student onboarding
The Induction Plan (document in Catalan) is a set of activities organised by the School before the start of the academic year (September) and at the end of the first semester. The aim is to:
- Reduce the impact on new students of entering the University.
- Promote students’ integration and adaptation to the new university environment.
- Provide students with information on degrees, services and introductory courses to reinforce important subjects in the degree, among others.
- Find out about the most important academic regulations.
It involves five actions:
1. Students who have a place assigned through the Pre-enrolment Office are invited to an information session prior to the first enrolment.
The aim is to present the School and to give instructions on enrolment. Students are also informed of the possibility of enrolling for the preparatory courses in physics, mathematics and engineering presentation. The session is given by the assistant director of Course Promotion and New Students, the head of studies and the head of the Teaching Support Office.
2. Information sessions for incoming students given first choice.
The aim of this session is to provide information on the enrolment procedure, the day and time of enrolment, the order of enrolment, grants and financial aid (Ministry of Education, Equitat). The session is given by the assistant director of Course Promotion and New Students, the head of studies and the head of the Teaching Support Office.
3. The first day of class, all incoming students are invited to a welcome session.
We present the management team and explain how to find out who your tutor is and how to contact them, how the teaching intranets that students use work (ATENEA and SIA), how to solve administrative or computer problems and the academic progress regulations and validations (at the end of the semester, a session is held on these topics only). We also explain how to participate in the Student Delegation and in the School’s governing bodies. The session is given by the assistant director of Course Promotion and New Students, the head of studies and the head of the Teaching Support Office. At the end, a questionnaire is administered to students to find out where they have come from, what their motivations are and the channels of communication that they have used to choose our school.
4. Tutor assignment.
A tutor is assigned to all enrolled students. This tutor will monitor the students assigned to him or her, following the EETAC's Tutorial Action Plan (document in Catalan).
5. When the classes have finished, all students will be invited to a new information session on the academic progress regulations and the validation process.
As a final induction activity for incoming students, at the end of the first semester at the EETAC an information session is held to expand knowledge on the academic progress regulations for those in the first stage and on how the validation process works for the curricular area that affects students in the first year. The session is given by the head of studies and the head of the Teaching Support Office.
