The Campus
The Baix Llobregat Campus
The EETAC is part of the Baix Llobregat Campus, which has an area of 38 hectares and houses university services as a Library, a bar / cafeteria / restaurant and the Pius Font i Quer University Residence .
It has excellent communications with Barcelona and its metropolitan area: Castelldefels belongs to zone 1 of the integrated tariff system of the metropolitan area of Barcelona, which includes the Rodalies train service (Castelldefels station is 300 meters away from the Campus) and the metropolitan buses X95 and L95, with stops at the access from the Olympic Channel, and L99 with a stop at the access from Pi Tort street. It is also accessible via the C-32 motorway and the C-31 motorway.
The Baix Llobregat Campus was designed with environmental criteria in terms of both the construction and the use of the buildings, so that specific care is taken of the soil and vegetation, water consumption and efficiency and energy autonomy of the buildings, prioritizing mobility on foot or by bycicle inside the Campus, and enhancing public transport in its external communications. The Campus is a 10-minute walk from the city center of Castelldefels, a residential town, where, althogh the construction industry is of some importance, tourist and service companies are the most prominent part of its economy, with an agricultural activity present in irrigation, with vegetables and legumes. With more than five kilometers of fine sandy beaches and a pleasant climate, it has an interesting historical heritage, which with the castle of Fels, of the century X, twelve watchtowers, of the century XVI, and numerous century-old farmhouses such as Cal Ganxo or Can Roca de Baix, are part of the extensive cultural heritage of a town of reference, also for nautical sports and seafood cuisine.
We recommend this video if you do not know the town. Next to the Campus there is also one of the most unique sports facilities in Catalonia: the Olympic Channel, with a multitude of aquatic activities and equipped with a modern gym.
Other places of interest within 20 minutes are the Garraf Natural Park, the Baix Llobregat Agricultural Park or the Barcelona-El Prat Airport.
The Mediterranean Technology Park
EETAC and the entire Baix Llobregat Campus are integrated within the Mediterranean Technology Park (PMT), a privileged environment where research converges, with international reference centers such as the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO), the Telecommunications Technological Center of Catalonia (CTTC), the Center for Research in Economics and Agricultural Development (CREDA) and the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC); with the development and innovation in the form of different technology-based companies housed in the RDIT building, with the teaching, research and transfer activities carried out by the teaching staff of the EETAC and the EEABB.
In 2014, the campus hosted the first ESA-BIC in the entire state, a Business Incubation Center of the European Space Agency (ESA) created with the support of Barcelona Activa, the Consell Comarcal del Baix Llobregat, the Diputació de Barcelona, the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, Caixa Invest and the UPC, to facilitate the creation of innovative start-ups that make use of the applications and technologies developed in space. In 2023, the second stage of this ESA-BIC began, which is managed by the PMT-UPC and with the support of the Generalitat de Catalunya, is part of Catalonia's New Space strategy.
