Quantum Information Technologies students visit the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO)
Nov 28, 2025
A group of students from the Quantum Information Technologies course, accompanied by professors Javier Argüello Luengo and Santiago Torres, visited the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO), an international reference centre in photonics and quantum technologies located on our UPC Campus.
The day began with a welcome from Verònica Ahufinger, Head of Academic Affairs at ICFO, who presented the centre’s main research lines and its strong commitment to training and innovation in the field of quantum photonics.
During the visit, students had the opportunity to explore the laboratories of the research groups in Quantum Optics with Atoms —where ultracold atomic systems are used to explore new quantum phenomena— and the group of Quantum Photonics with Solids and Atoms, dedicated to developing photonic technologies based on solid-state materials and hybrid atomic systems.
This experience enabled students to gain first-hand insight into the cutting-edge research conducted at ICFO and to understand the key role of photonics in the present and future development of quantum technologies.
We would like to thank the Catalonia Quantum Academy and the researchers who opened their laboratories, making this activity possible and helping bring students closer to the world of advanced research and technology.
