Research Meeting on Asteroseismology and Stellar Pulsations
Feb 10, 2026
International experts analyze the interior of white dwarfs at an asteroseismology meeting at EETAC
The Astronomy and Astrophysics Group (GAA) of UPC, coordinated by Professor Santiago Torres Gil, with the participation of other faculty members and PhD students from EETAC, organized a workshop on asteroseismology and white dwarf pulsations during the week of February 2–6.
These stars, which represent the future fate of the Sun, reveal highly valuable information about the evolution of our Galaxy and the Universe. In a similar way to the Sun, white dwarfs can oscillate, and the analysis of their pulsation periods provides key insights into their internal structure and evolution.
The meeting brought together international experts in the field from the University of La Plata (Argentina). Among other topics, participants discussed observational campaigns using large telescopes, such as the Gran Telescopio Canarias, as well as the analysis of data from astronomical satellites like TESS and Kepler, and from future ESA missions.
